The Petersburg Railroad Depot The Petersburg Railroad Depot

Of the many photographs taken in Richmond at the end of the war, this view of the ruins of the Petersburg Railroad Depot stands out as the image with the most vivid 3-D effect. The depot was in the "Burnt District," a large area between the James River and the capitol building that was ravaged by fires that spread after being set by the fleeing Confederates.

This orange-mount Anthony view also carries the Anthony backmark with an address of 591 Broadway, which indicates it was issued in 1869 or later.
