January 31, 1863 Charles J. Tyson purchases a two-story brick dwelling on Chambersburg Street in Gettysburg.

February 2, 1897 Civil War photographer Robert Newell dies. Newell published a series of views of Chambersburg, PA after it had been burnt by the Confederates in July 1864. He also published views of the Philadelphia Sanitary Fair.

February 4, 1902 Civil War photographer George Barnard dies at his daughter's home in Syracuse, NY from "malignant brostatitis."
