The Center for Civil War Photography’s digitized collection of original Gettysburg National Military Park negatives from the 1930s to the 1970s is now available online at the CCWP’s Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ccwpdigitalarchive/.

Over the years, the GNMP took these photographs documenting the improvements and changes to the park. CCWP Director of Imaging John Richter acknowledged, “This collection is a great resource of photographic history of the Park in the 20th Century.” Since the collection numbered over a thousand negatives, it was impractical to have them printed. For the past three years John Richter and CCWP volunteer Denise Campbell worked to digitize the negatives, turning them into positives, so they finally can be viewed and studied. Making these images available on the web dramatically increases the number of people who can view them and helps to fulfill the CCWP’s mission.

While captions do exist for most of the photographs, they aren't always accurate or complete. CCWP volunteers Alice Bampton, Barry Gingrich, Barry Larkin, Barry Martin, Don Moody, Charles Morrongiello, John Kelley, Michael Schneider, and Rick Walton assisted with writing and organizing the captions for the photographs. The CCWP is still searching for a volunteer to add these captions to their respective photographs on the Flickr page. The CCWP also welcomes civil war photo enthusiasts to leave comments and provide additional information on the photographs.
